This is
an 8-week course exploring the eight limbs of yoga. Theory and
practice is combined to enhance your own experience of yoga
philosophy.
Week
1: The Yamas – 5 ethical restraints of yoga: ahimsa, satya,
asteya, brahmacarya, aparigraha
Week
2: The Niyamas – 5 lifestyle practices of yoga: sauca, santosa,
tapas, svadhyaya, ishvara pranidana
Week
3: Asana theory, guidelines for beneficial practice, different
styles examined.
Week
4:Pranayama – the energy system of yoga and the science of
breath.
Week
5: Pratyahara – sense withdrawal, techniques to calm the
mind.
Week
6: Dharana – development of concentration for meditative
practices.
Week
7: Dhyana – cosmic ideation as a meditation technique. Includes
yoga cosmology.
Week
8: Samadhi – the goal of yoga, incorporates bhakti, karma and
jnana yoga. Culmination of human potential in yogic
science.
